Bruce Wayne

"I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Batman!"

Bruce Wayne is a billionaire businessman and philanthropist based in Gotham City, New Jersey, who fights crime as the masked superhero Batman. After witnessing the tragic murder in Gotham's Crime Alley of his parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, by the criminal Joe Chill when he was eight years old, Bruce vows to dedicate his life to fighting crime and seeking justice for those who cannot protect themselves.

Wayne resides in Wayne Manor, a grand estate atop the secret headquarters, known as the Batcave, where he crafts his high-tech gadgets, including the iconic Batmobile, to aid him in his crusade against Gotham’s criminal underworld. His loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth, has been a constant presence in Bruce’s life, providing both practical and emotional support.

Though Bruce Wayne leads a public life as a wealthy socialite and CEO of Wayne Enterprises, he secretly operates as Batman, using his wealth, intellect and physical prowess to become the ultimate crimefighter. As Batman, he is the guardian of Dick Grayson, a young orphan who becomes Robin, Batman’s loyal sidekick. He is also closely allied with James Gordon, Gotham City’s police commissioner, who often turns to Batman for help when the law is insufficient to handle Gotham’s rampant crime.

As a member of the Justice League, Batman works alongside other superheroes to protect the world from global threats. His enemies include some of the most notorious criminals in Gotham, such as The Joker, a chaotic and dangerous clown-themed villain; The Penguin, a mobster with a penchant for bird-themed crime; and The Riddler, a criminal obsessed with puzzles and riddles.

Batman also has a complex love/hate relationship with Selina Kyle, known as Catwoman, a cat burglar who vacillates between being an adversary and an ally.

Though often venturing into morally grey areas in his fight against crime, Batman follows a strict no-kill rule, refusing to take lives even when facing dangerous adversaries. He distinguishes between justice and vengeance—his mission is to uphold the law and protect Gotham, not to seek revenge for the wrongs done to him.
