Stanford University is a university in Palo Alto, California, founded in 1885 by railroad tycoon Leland Stanford.
Stanford has a close connection with Silicon Valley, producing the founders of countless tech firms, including Hewlett-Packard, Yahoo!, Netflix, Google, PayPal, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat and DoorDash, among many others.
In 1971, Stanford is home to the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment.
