The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) is a state-of-the-art constitution class starship of the United Federation of Planets, built in 2245 and tasked with exploring deep space and ensuring peace and diplomacy between the various species of the galaxy. It is equipped with advanced technology, including warp drives for faster-than-light travel and short-range transporters. It carries powerful weaponry, including phasers and photon torpedoes, and deflector shields for defense.
Its most famous captain is James T. Kirk, in command from 2265–2270. His officers include First Officer/Science Officer Mr. Spock, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, Communications Officer Lt. Uhura, Helmsman Lt. Sulu and Navigator Lt. Chekhov. Under Kirk, the ship has a total crew of 428.
In 2085, this iteration of the Enterprise is stolen by Kirk to retrieve the body of Spock from the Genesis Planet. It is destroyed when Kirk sets it to auto-destruct in orbit around the planet. It is replaced by several successor ships also named Enterprise.
